Hyundai India unveils the Grand i10 based Xcent sedan
Thursday, 6 February 2014 by Unknown
One of the most eagerly anticipated cars of the year, the Grand i10 based
Xcent sedan has been unveiled at a function in Delhi today. As expected, the
car is based on the Grand i10 hatchback and shares much of its external
appearance as well as underpinnings with the same. It shares it name with
the erstwhile Accent sedan but with more of an X factor as the company likes
to put it, thus the name Xcent.
Influenced by the Fluidic design philosophy, the side profile of the sedan is
similar to the hatchback to the point of the C-pillar, from where on things
change drastically. The roofline flows into the boot section and sharply rakes
into the back. The sedan stands at less than four metres but will have a
slightly longer wheelbase than the hatchback.

The rear loading lip is a bit high and gives the car a sporty look. The rear
sports the same designhe hatchback in terms of lamps. The Xcent sedan gets
interiors and a feature list very similar to the hatchback. This list includes
rear AC vents, smart key, rear parking camera with sensors, 2-Din music
system with a one GB internal memory, auto folding chrome mirrors and one
touch boot opening. On the safety front the list includes ABS and airbags.
The sedan is expected to get the 1.4-litre diesel unit from the i20 premium
hatchback that produces 89bhp and 219Nm of torque while the petrol unit is
expected to be the 1.2-litre Kappa engine that produces 81bhp and 114Nm of
torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual
gearbox or a four-speed AT for the petrol, though there is a possibility of the
diesel getting an AT box too, sometime in the future.
The sedan will compete in the C-Segment compact sedan class against the
well established Maruti Swift Dzire and the Honda Amaze. If the success of
the hatchback is anything to go by, the sedan will be a tough competitor in
the segment.
