While the SX4 may have not been much of a success story for Maruti Suzuki,

the S-Cross could very well change the fortunes for the moniker. Introduced

last year in the global markets, the S-Cross is the latest in the line of mid-size

crossovers and competes against the likes of Renault Captur in Europe.

The crossover currently is being offered with one diesel and one petrol

engine. The oil burner is a turbocharged 1.6-litre unit that produces 117bhp

and 320Nm of torque while the petrol unit is a 1.6-litre engine producing

117bhp and 156Nm of torque. Depending on the model, power is transmitted

to the front wheels or all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or a

CVT. If Maruti ever decides to bring it here in the Indian market, expect the

S-Cross to come with a front-wheel drive configuration.

The S-Cross is based on a brand new platform and is said to offer “One of the

largest luggage areas in its class.”, making it quite a practical offering for the
